Frustrated
Its real sad when lack of support for OpenSource projects that depend on donations get stiffed by users that seem to think “oh its free I’m not donating” attituded.
Sure the program is free but almost nothing else is. Like the developers internet connection. Their time coding it. Food or snacks while we enjoy writing the code. And just about everything else. Developers really rely on donations because if the program wasn’t free would you have paid for it instead? What if developers that don’t get support should we start forcing advertising in our programs to generate some revenue back to us?
I am just really disgusted with the users of CastPodder that simply just think they don’t need to support Open Source projects because its free.
44 people have gone to the donations site, yes I keep stats, and out of the 44 one person made a donation of $20 to the project, btw thanks, and the rest of you just went on your marry way not giving it one thought about what happens if they don’t.
So this is what it comes down to and the choices I have to make:
1) Be offline and CastPodder is dead until I can come up with the money needed to get the internet connection back.
2) Decide what to do about making extra money for the project support which will include advertising with google in the program which of course would be hardcoded in so users cannot remove it.
3) Just give up and remove CastPodder totally.
So what do you think ? Does anyone care? All I am needing is $200 USD by Dec. 4th which is a week away. Surely some of you users will step up and help out right? Or am I wasting my time here?

Not trying to sound callous, but have you considered alternative free FLOSS hosting such as SourceForge or savannah.gnu.org? This would be a good route to alleviate the burden of hosting costs. Alternatively, sites such as godaddy.com are offering 5GB storage / 250GB traffic hosting for $3.19/mo if you sign up for 12-24 months - even taken monthly, they’re only charging $3.99/mo.
[caveat: not an employee or a referral seeker, just trying to help

So your saying I don’t deserve donations if I only do what your saying?
I am disabled. I got shot in Iraq. I live on a crappy retirement and code open source programs like CastPodder. I donate to SF every year and I host mirros for other OSI projects. Donation’s helps me out here. I can’t do anything else.
I guess I just do not see anyone’s point on where the code is at also depends on whether I should get donation’s or not.
I should just give up and cut my loses here and never work on anything that is free again. Just not worth it. Let mircosoft rule the world with RedHat next to them.

If you’re going to see every suggestion as an attack, you might as well give up. I personally can’t offer any monetary assistance, but surely pointing at free or cheap hosting is something that would be of use to you, even just to investigate and discard if it’s unsuitable? Clearly you’re shifting a lot of data to incur a large hosting bill - somewhere like sourceforge or a cheap host like godaddy, rackforce, theplanet, and so on are surely useful pointers for you to save money?
And trying to guilt someone out with your comments is derogatory and doesn’t help your cause.
