Passing Friends and New News
July 29th, 2007
(and some real news updates too)
Sometimes I wonder why I read books. I like books. I love books. I hate finishing books.
Every time I finish a book, a book I’ve enjoyed, it’s like an old friend dying. It’s quite sad.
I know there’s always new books and returning to old books and revisiting of old friends and stuff. But that’s completely not the point….
In real news, Essk and I think we’ve found a nice little flat of our own. Touch wood.
And I may have discovered an exception to the magic pig theory, one I need to experiment upon and will report back further.
And and I’ve lost my mobile phone. Annoying. Don’t text me. Or call. Or MMS. Or laugh.

Could you possibly make an exception for your “Bandwidth stealing” images for people coming in from RSS readers? (whitelist google/reader? something like that) because getting your fuck-off-great bandwidth-stealing image when you’re using a smiley sucks cocks. KTHXBAI.
(I assume you also have an exception for plo?)

Aquarion,
Were you on NTL/Virshin/Telebadger perhaps? I’ve had a couple of NTL users report that problem – a cache issue it’s suspected.
However, I can see google being a problem so I’ll add a magic rule for google, just for you

It’s a generic cache problem. Your bandwidth-stealing thing feeds an image back when you ask for “smily.png”, so it saves that. If your rewrite was a redirect instead (“moved temporarily” ideally), then the cache would know to try again from the main site, instead of relying on what it got when I was coming from google. (Also for your whitelist, bloglines. In fact, why bother putting it on for the smiley directory at all?)

Aquarion:
As that’s the original images that was being stolen!
I take your redirect under advisement. I like the idea.
